We live on the north side of Chicago and found Angelica's cakes for sale at Jewel (Lawrence/Central). My husband wanted an authentic German Chocolate cake (made with chocolate cake instead of Devil's Food). The coconut frosting wasn't too thick. The cake wasn't too dry (slightly crumbly). This worked very well for an adult birthday cake. My husband said it just was missing nuts in the frosting - traditional cakes do have this, but perhaps there weren't as many pecans as we are used to. Looking forward to trying her other cakes I saw on display in the bakery case at Jewel (coconut, caramel). Thank you for creating this delicious dessert!

So normally i have no problems but my last two times have been horrible. I order a pecan pie and it was very tasty but one things was missing and that was the nuts!! How do u have a pecan pie without pecans? The first time it was very few but the last time it wasnt any on nearly half of the pie!! Like really?!? I pay 4.50 for a small pie can i at least have what i order.

I hadn't been there before so decided to try a few things. Cookies: Terrible. tried Teacup, butter and white chocolate chip. The teacup was the better one. Butter was extremely bland. it's like they barely added butter or sugar or vanilla--just terrible. White chocolate chip was also bland. I will never try their cookies again. they need to taste their stuff. unless you're diabetic..don't bother. Lime Cake: doggone delicious. Banana Pudding (in a cup): doggone delicious. red velvet & Carmel cupcakes: was regular. as in a regular tasting cupcake which in general are good, but not great. Carrot Cake Cupcake: I'm a carrot cake connosouir. it was pretty doggone tasty. especially when warmed in microwave. you have to sample a lot to find out what works for you. it's hit or miss.

Cakes are good, especially Carmel but employees need better training, I blame owners for neglecting business. I will only buy cake if it's at a restaurant and will not visit bakery.

If you plan to visit Angelica's, be prepared to over indulge. EVERYTHING is good. When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. My favorite is the key lime cake. It will literally make you want to slap your mama. lol They are known for the caramel cakes and cake in a jar also.

I didn't even know they sold cupcakes! My kids loved them! Nice selection of goodies

I used to like this place but the service and goods have gone bad. I pre ordered my son's birthday cake. I went and chose the cake, chose decorations, and paid upfront. I was given a receipt that stated that my cake would be ready by 4 o'clock the following day. I arrived an hour early to pick up the cake at 3 p.m. And they were very confused and left me standing in front for about 10 minutes. I left to do other things before his celebration. When I called I was hung up on at first. Then I called back and I spoke to a total of four different women neither of which knew what I was speaking about with my cake. Finally I received a call at 3:30 stating that my cake was never made. I asked how? She said "Miscommunication". My cake was ready within 45 minutes. The cake was awful. I was so disappointed. They scribbled the writing and border and didn't design the way we discussed. Also the cake was missing components. It was an Atomic cake and missed ingredients as described the day before. When we ate the cake it was dry and I was very afraid we were given old cake. The edges tasted very different from the rest. I would come here for cupcakes and slices. NEVER again. You only get once to screw me on my son's birthday. I wish I had pictures. It didn't look like I paid $40. it looked like I paid 10 or did it myself...although I probably would have done better. Very sad experience. I usually get my whole cakes from Orland Bakery but this year i thought I'd shop local and support black business. Angelicas Bakery has literally left a bad taste in my mouth and makes me regret my decision to choose them over Orland.

FABULOUS! I found this institution by complete surprise, and Oh, Boy! What a surprise. Their service is superb, the quality and variety of their cupcakes is second-to-none, and did I mention they are FABULOUS? Get over to Angelica's for the most Angelic Cupcakes eve; especially for your next client meeting, and get a dozen- wait- better make that two dozen; their variety is such that you can't possibly try every flavor with just a dozen cupcakes. Your clients will never forget you after tasting these treasures! (plus, they'll feel guilty for eating even one...have I mentioned these cupcakes are HUGE?)

I just went here and while I was not a huge fan of the caramel cake my husband almost lost his mind..lol...My kids loved it too.

This bakery is terrible. I called on a Friday at 10:23 am and asked if they could print an edible image, just the image. They put me on hold so they could ask the manager and when they came back to the phone I was told they could. I brought in the image around 5 pm and paid for it. I was told that the manager was gone for the day and I said that's fine I will pick it up tomorrow. I called after I left and told them I wanted the full size of the paper and she said no problem. They opened at 9 am on Saturday morning and I was called at 10:27 am to be told that it's against their policy to print the image and that the manager said no. I told them to hold on so I could relay the message to my family member and I heard the manager on the phone, I think her name is Erma, say "she keep putting me on hold this must not be the person who placed the order". That was the first disrespectful thing. I asked how I could get my money back and she told me to come back with the card. I so ok and hung up. Then she called back and said when will you be coming by and I said I don't know. She then, in a nasty way, says ok well we close at 6 thank you and then she hung up. This bakery is terrible and their customer service is plain crap. This is a disgrace and they need better employees. I was apologized to plenty of times by an employee who had nothing to do with it when I got there. She shouldn't have to apologize for her teams disrespect and how unprofessional they were. If they continue on this way I hope they close this bakery. These women and their attitudes are a shame. Step up your game.

Staff could use some training in customer service. If you are rude to your customers then you will lose them. There is far more to providing Good Service than just cooking a moist cake.

Let's see what all the hype is about. Carmel cake- It was okay. Not as moist as I'd imagine from all these 5 star reviews. It was nothing special, I think my expectations were high after all the other reviews. I don't think I'd go buy another one. The smallest size & 2 layer cake was about $18.
(2)SHONA M.
They CAN NOT design cakes at all! It's unbelievable that they would allow there cakes to walk out the door with such horrible designs! If you just want taste with no type of acceptable decor then this is the place for you! Dont pay for them to do what a toddler could do! I will say there pies & cobblers are exceptional ! My friend purchased a baby shower cake from them and after much complaint about the crappy design they did they sent her out the door with 2 measly pieces of cobbler. The point is no wanted to take responsibility for the horrible cake they allowed to be purchased for such a memorable event.

I don't know what happen to this bakery but the taste has left the building! I brought cake and cupcakes which were dry and flavorless. I guess most of the focus is the the Carmel cakes but I'm not going back!

I had to go to the courthouse in Harvey as a witness in an arbitration hearing. Argh, I hate these types of things. Anyway, traffic was light so I got there way early. I pulled out my handy dandy Android phone, powered up the Yelp application and searched for breakfast fare. Angelica's popped up and the reviews looked promising. It's a few blocks south of where I was so I made a quick side trip there. It was early morning so they had piles of their infamous caramel cake waiting for the happy customers who will be snapping them up. They have a big selection of baked goods. I did not know what to get but I finally decided on cupcakes. I asked the clerk to make the selections for me. I wound up with a mini version of the caramel cake, a red velvet one, a really chocolaty one and some others which I gave away when I got to work. The other reviews are on target. This is a great place. I can't wait to get back. Next time I may try some of the pies in the refrigerated case such as egg custard or sweet potato pie. The service was pleasant and helpful. So the bright side of my visit to the courthouse was finding this place.

I went on a whim and was pleased with my slice of coconut cake. I will be returning to try more goodies. The cupcakes looked awesome. I think they will be next on my list :D

The carmel cake was the cornerstone of the bakery when the first location opened 15+ years ago across the street from Hillcrest HS. It's still good... better than what you would get at the grocery store, but not as good since they are being mass produced. Seems to me like they are not as moist. The pies are good too. My personal fave is the sweet potato. Would steer clear of buying the cakes at locations where they are not refrigerated (walgreen's, gas stations etc.) they mold quickly.

I love the caramel cake, does anyone hear an echo? (Though my husband *gasp* does not!!) But he can Yelp that himself, LOL. It's almost my birthday, and I think I want some cupcakes. Angelica's cupcakes...are better than the cake in my opinion. Caramel, carrot cake, all kinds of awesome cupcakes. They are moist and flavorful, just the best cupcakes I've ever had. The ONLY thing I can't recommend are the cookies. They are not good at all, dry and just old tasting. But I'm still giving it a 5, because I don't go there for the cookies. All I need for my birthday this year is some Angelica's cupcakes and I'll be happy. :)
(5)Lisa P.
I think this place is over rated and their cakes are not worth what they charge, but some how I do prefer the cupcake version of their cakes. My fave would have to be yellow-cake/chocolate frosting, uhmmm yum:)
(2)Candace M.
Angelica's Bakery has the BEST caramel cake and if you haven't tried it, you better...you don't know what you're missing. The red velvet cake is awesome and the chocolate cake is delectable. I have had the peach cobbler, banana pudding and their LARGE cookies, all d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s! I love sweets, I can't help it. There's also an Angelica's Bakery on 87th Street right off Stony Island so if you can't make it to the south 'burbs, check out this location (1517 E. 87th Street).

I've had the Chocolate Cake and the Caramel Cake. I am not a fan of Caramel Cakes, but when I had a bite of hers, I almost lost my mind. It was sooo moist and full of caramel flavor. The icing is perfect and the flavor is in the cake as well. The cakes are a bit pricey, but I think they are worth it. You have to try this cake!!!
(5)Cassel M.
Angelica's is hands down the best Carmel Cake I have ever tasted in my life. If it was possible to have that shipped to Denver I would - IMMEDIATELY but last time I checked their site- the carmel cake is the only one that can't be shipped. :( Oh well! That just gives me more of a reason to head to Chi-town to visit friends and for a simply amazing piece of cake. Or in my case - half the cake - Damn, it's good! Are you shipping that thing yet?
(5)frances m.
The first time I went here I had to get one of each favor of their cupcakes and they were all great, also my mom loves peach cobbler so I had to get her some, man now every time I go to her house I have to make sure I bring some or will hear it from her.

Angelica's is a gem in the Chicagoland area. The best caramel cake and cupcakes, hands down. I work downtown and see the plethora of cupcake shops sprouting up. I've tried a couple and besides the outrageous prices they charge, they cannot match the taste that Angelica's has (in addition to the value you get for your money -- Angelica's cupcakes are huge!!). I've brought in a few cakes to my job and my co-workers tear it up each and every time!
(5)Rahshonda K.
I was at a party who had a red velvet cake. OMG it was so awesome. For my birthday party I will definitely be ordering my cake from them.
(5)Phillie P.
To be honest, I haven't actually been to the bakery. However, I have had their signature CARAMEL CAKE. Holy crap.. it's GOOD. My sister lives down in the south suburbs and I may have to make a stop there and grab a cake.
(4)Valerie M.
The Carmel cake is absolute complete heaven. I think I could eat a whole cake by itself.
(5)Nia S.
the best ever!!
(5)Lou B.
Angelica's makes the *best* cakes! My wife and I ordered ten varieties for our wedding, and everyone was in love with the cakes. In particular, we heard raves for the red velvet cake, the caramel cake, the caramel-pecan cake, and the yellow cake with chocolate frosting. But, truly, every cake was loved! We found their cakes at Moo & Oink, so ... no need to go all the way to the suburbs to get them.
(5)Dakota B.
Finally had the infamous caramel cake. It was tasty, but rather heavy. I do not mean while eating it, but theaftermath. I had a pretty average sized slice and was full for HOURS afterwards. It just sat and sat on my stomach. Overall the cake was tasty, not too sweet and very carmel-ey. But I wouldn't eat it again.
(3)Val C.
They made me a pineapple upside-down sheet cake for my husband's 50th birthday luau party. It was sooooo good! I will definitely be getting my cakes from Angelica's from now on!
